Allison Ling

Allison"s Fiddle Program uses familiar fiddle tunes as a means to develop certain skills and techniques necessary to play fiddle music. There is a strong emphasis on learning "by ear" and on playing with other fiddlers or accompanists, but students will also learn how to read musical notation. Musical selections come from a variety of sources including Jerry Holland"s Collection of Fiddle Tunes and The Fiddle Music of Prince Edward Island.

Allison began studying violin and fiddle at age nine and soon joined the Singing Strings, PEI’s celebrated youth string orchestra. By age seventeen, she was invited to play with the PEI Symphony Orchestra.

As a violinist, Allison’s career highlights include playing for HRH Prince Edward and the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, former Prime Minister of Canada, as well as for several Premier’s Conferences. She has completed Grade Seven of the Royal Conservatory of Music and works year-round as a wedding musician.

Allison’s first paying gigs as a fiddler were on the tourist wharves of the Island. From there, she graduated to playing at ceilidhs and dances. Her debut CD, “Wake the Affections,” was nominated for a PEI Music Award in 2003. As a fiddler she has toured across Canada and in Europe in the shows “Fiddlin’ With The Truth,” “The Truth About Daughters,” and “The Truth About Love and/or Marriage.” She also works as a fiddler and character actor at the Avonlea Village in Cavendish, PEI.
